In-Home Parent Coaching

ABC (Attachment Biobehavioral Catch-Up) is an evidence-based parenting intervention for caregivers of infants and toddlers ages 6 – 24 months who have experienced trauma or adversity.

This in-home program helps caregivers learn to successfully parent through daily challenges by:

  • Strengthening the parent-child relationship.
  • Teaching the child to communicate better and regulate his or her behaviors and emotions.
  • Helping caregivers recognize the child’s unique signs of distress and how to respond.

Studies of children and caregivers who have participated in ABC show that:

  • Children are more likely to be securely attached to their caregiver.
  • Children develop better impulse control.
  • Children are less likely to show anger during a challenging task.
  • Children have more advanced receptive language abilities.
  • Parents respond to their young children with more sensitivity.

Here’s how it works.

The program is straightforward, brief and tailored to individual families. Highly trained infant and early child care specialists serve as parent coaches and offer:

  • 10 sessions – one hour per week in client homes with structured parenting topics and in-the-moment commenting on parent-child interactions.
  • Positive feedback using video clip reviews and commentary on live interactions with the parent and child from the previous week.
  • End-of-program celebration video of the family’s special moments.

We encourage other family members and siblings to participate in the sessions as well.

To request ABC services, fill out an intake form through Help Me Grow, our centralized access point to local resources across the state. A Help Me Grow Care Coordinator will contact you for more details.
